Ten landmarks in Indonesia were recognized on Tuesday as must-see destinations by TripAdvisor, according to its 2014 Travelers’ Choice awards that highlight the top landmarks and parks around the world.
According to the list,
the 8th century Borobudur Temple in Magelang, Central Java, is the top landmark
in the country, followed by Prambanan Temple in Yogyakarta, Central Java, and
Gunung Kawi in Tampaksiring, Bali.
“Borobudur is definitely
not to be missed. It’s a real gem and an impressive monumental temple,"
said a TripAdvisor traveler.
Landmarks in Bali
dominated the list, claiming six out of the top 10 spots nationwide, while Java
boasted three of the best landmarks.
There were 929 winners
identified in this the second year of the award’s existence. In addition to a
list that ranked the top 25 sites worldwide, there were dedicated lists for
Asia; Australia; Canada; China; Europe; India; Mexico; South America; the South
Pacific; the United Kingdom and the United States.
“TripAdvisor travelers
have helped identify some of the best attractions around the globe. These
award-winning landmarks and parks are an ideal starting point for taking in the
world’s must-see sights," said TripAdvisor chief marketing officer Barbara
Messing in a press release on Tuesday.
The Travelers’ Choice
awards recognize the best travel spots worldwide based on millions of reviews
from TripAdvisor travelers. Award winners were determined using an algorithm
that took into account the quantity and quality of reviews for landmark and
park attractions worldwide, gathered over a 12-month period.
